It's been over three decades since the Air Icarus first released. A '90s running favorite, the Air Icarus was one of the first to feature an Air-Sole unit. This classic silhouette provided exceptional comfort and heritage style.

However, the versions that released in the early 2000s have little in common with the classic design that would eventually receive a retro in 2016. Similar to the Air Pegasus, Nike opted to modernize the design of the Icarus after the turn of the century to create a more sturdy, breathable runner. Some of the standout features include a wire mesh rib cage, bulky midsole, and 3M accents.

The Greek myth of Icarus is one of the most well-known stories from antiquity that stresses the dangers of hubris, or excessive pride. Perhaps this is where the Air Icarus received its name from as the line has long been recognized as a no-nonsense, humble model.
