The Nike Alpha Project was a Nike initiative launched in 1999 with the goal of creating innovative footwear and apparel that enhanced performance. The short-lived but impactful line of shoes, apparel and accessories pushed the envelope for more imaginative designs, and undeniably influenced today’s futuristic footwear vision.
Each shoe from the Alpha Project incorporated the signature 5 dots a nod to the logo that spelled out "Alpha" (pictured on the inside of the tongue). Some of the basketball products released as part of the project included the Nike Air Flightposite 3, Nike Zoom Flight 2k3, and Nike Zoom GP Series. The Project's launch was accompanied by a series of over-the-top TV commercials directed by Michael Bay. French director Michel Gondry also directed some of the commercials.
This specific pair of basketball shoes from The Alpha Project features a wire-mesh cage that wraps across a distinctively tall silhouette; likely geared towards power forwards the position that dominated the NBA in the early 2000s.
Although in solid overall condition, this pair is over 20 years old and to be worn with care as with all vintage footwear. 100% wearability over time cannot be guaranteed.
