The Chukka Boot was the first Nike Considered release—and not what one typically envisions when thinking of a Nike shoe. The knitting pattern on the upper came from Mike Aveni, who had used a similar technique on the Air Woven. It consists of a single large hemp lace that provides structure to the suede upper while allowing it to flex and mold to the foot. While this standout model contrasted sharply with other Nike releases of the time, it still drew on the ACG ideas of the era and applied Nike’s technological expertise and resources—just with a different goal than athletic performance. In doing so, it set the stage for the subsequent Nike Considered releases that would continue to push sustainable design.
