Nike was a fairly prominent player in the cycling world, building an extensive line of cycling-specific performance products between the 80s and early 2000s. Most Nike cycling footwear in the late 90s - early 2000s released under the ACG umbrella. As mountain biking gained popularity outside of California it prompted technical developments in bikes and the footwear used for riding. Shimano created its two-bolt SPD recessed cleat system, changing the standard for the future. Nike followed suit with two-bolt compatibility on styles like the Supa Pooh-Bah and Nguba 2.
The ACG Kato II is part of the Kato line which features two-bolt cleats. Nearly all of the designs from the Kato line look like they could be rocked off the bike. On this pair, the blend of abrasion resistant and quick drying quality materials jumps out. From the rubber toe guard and heel, to 3M hits, mesh, nubuck, and synthetic leather lining, this pair has a bit of everything. The outsole offers stiffness for pedaling efficiency, yet has flexibility and traction. While the upper sports both laces and a velcro strap for a balanced approached, suitable for riding and walking on the trail.
Although barely worn, this pair is over 20 years old and to be worn with care as with all vintage footwear. 100% wearability over time cannot be guaranteed.
