As with all Bowerman Series models, the Air Max Moto+ 5 has the classic mesh runner look that took the mid 2000s by storm. It features a Cushlon midsole, articulated air bag unit, and mesh panels throughout the upper.
This specific pair was part of the Nike+ technology — a software program collaboration between Nike and Apple that tracked the performance of runners through a wireless connection. The proprietary system consisted of several components: the Nike+ sensor, a pair of shoes compatible with Nike+, a Nike+ tracking device (iPod), an iTunes membership, and a Nike+ online community.
The sensor and iPod kit were revealed on May 20, 2006. To activate the sensor, it had to be placed under the insole of the Nike+ compatible shoe. The kit stored real-time information such as the elapsed time of the workout, distance traveled, pace, and calories burned by the individual.
At its peak, Nike+ had 28 million global users as of April 2014. By 2018, Nike no longer supported the Nike+ Connect software.
