The Air Penny IV arrived in 1998 at a turning point in Penny Hardaway’s career, in the midst of a string of injuries in what was supposed to be his peak. By this time, he was nearing the end of his tenure with Orlando and this pair eventually became the last he'd wear with his original team.
This model was designed by Eric Avar who received inspiration from the style of Jordans releasing during this era. In fact, him and Tinker Hatfield conversed regularly at the time, sharing insights and philosophy. The overall shape and feel of the IV hold some undeniable similarities to Air Jordans that released around the same time, namely the XII and XIII.
The signature characteristics of the 'Home' version are a ribbed white leather base, wrapped by black and blue nubuck overlays. Penny branding on the tongue and strap pop in a metallic silver to complete the timeless Magic-theme.
